I’ll eventually run out of school work to blog about, but one of the most important things I got out of the Gerontology Certification program was the importance of communication and various barriers that we can face, especially when working with the elderly. I wanted to share the powerpoint I created on this topic, to hopefully help other understand the difficulties that communication barriers can pose, as well as how to overcome those barriers, and implement better communication techniques in an activity or recreation therapy based environment.
Are there any particularly difficult communication situations you’ve faced? How did you tackle the issue? How do you ensure efficient and effective communication between staff, residents, and family members? Let me know your thoughts on this!
